The Nieuwe Kerk (New Church)

Nivekerk - this is one of the most famous churches of Amsterdam . Its construction began in 1380 on the site of the private ownership of Willem Eggert, who donated his land for the needs of the church.

This temple has been repeatedly destroyed during heavy fire, but then it was reduced again. Today's church building is a combination of several architectural styles. The northern part has simple Gothic façade, but the interior executed in the Baroque style.

Church tower adorn the city's main clock, which for several centuries collate time residents of Amsterdam and his guests. In addition, the temple is the resting place for many famous Netherlanders. Another feature of this church is considered an ancient organ, designed back in 1670 by Jacob van Kampen. Today Nivekerk is inactive church. There are exhibitions, ceremonies, and organ concerts. The church is on Dam Square next to the Royal Palace .

You can get to the church on foot - from the central station, it takes about 10 minutes. Almost all trams go through Dam Square: № 1, 2, 4, 5, 9, 13, 14, 16, 17, 24, 25.
