Oude Kerk (Old Church)

Oude Kerk - is the oldest church in Amsterdam , it was erected in the 14th century. Then still it was named after St. Nicholas and was the only church in Amsterdam. The number of residents has grown, so it was decided to build a new church - Nivekerk . Thus, the Church of St. Nicholas got its name - Oude Kerk - Old Church. During its long history the church has experienced many renovations. Today it represents an architectural structure in the Renaissance style. Adorns the church bell, cast in 1405. 

Within the walls of this church is a gold-plated body, which once played a famous musician and composer Jan Sweelinck. In addition, a real decoration of the temple are extant unique stained glass windows created based on sketches by Lambert van Noort and Dirk Krabeta in 1555. 

The church is in De Wallen quarter on Audekerkspleyn. Get to the church Oude Kerk can be at the city tram number 4, 9, 16, 24 or 25 (need to travel one stop from Central Station) and get out at the stop must Damsquare.
